I use Hibernation mode when I shut my computer off for the night. I do this by depressing the power switch. Recently, I have noticed that sometimes when I depress the switch, it acts like it is going into hibernation mode but it doesn't. The monitor will turn dark as it should but instead of getting the "windows is going into hibernation mode "screen, the computer will just stay on but there is no signal to the monitor. The only way to power off the computer is to hold and depress the power switch to completely turn the computer off. The monitor says "no signal".
I know this isn't a healthy way to turn the computer off but cannot figure out what could be wrong.

You're correct - it isn't healthy. But the question is why do you use hibernation/standby?

Hibernation/standby are designed specifically to conserve laptop battery power. Yours is a desktop - there is no advantage of using hibernate/standby.

I still have many PCs running 24/7 without hibernate/standby and not even one workstation ever developed problem.

How long have they been constantly on...I am always worried about burning out a hard drive so I use Hibernation. Maybe I will turn it off for good!
