The time had come to refresh the operating system. NOT a re-install: I copied an image I had burnt from earlier in the year.
All went smoothly, except for this one little hiccough: there is no hibernate tab in Power Options. And of course a greyed-out Hibernate button on 'Turn off computer'.
Yes it used to be there, as I prefer Hibernate for a quicker startup in the morning. And no, I did not change the CMOS.
Usual reasons for this problem are hardware that does not support it, or correct drivers not present. But the hardware is exactly the same, and the software should have been too.
It's a puzzle: can anyone offer an alternative solution?
