Just like #1 said, we need more information because there are tons of reasons why a laptop may not start up.

Have you noticed the battery wouldn't hold a charge before it quit working? Has it been dropped or spilled on while it was on? Do any of the lights turn on when you plug it in? Do any lights turn on or do any fans spin when you try to turn it on?

The more information you give us, the better answers we can give you!

How do you know there's power going through the board if nothing happens when you try to turn it on?

Since you never answered my questions, this is just a shot in the dark... Pull the battery out and un-plug the power supply from the laptop. Press and hold the power button on the laptop for 60 seconds then keep the battery out, but plug the power supply back into the laptop and see if it turns on.

If it turns on, that means your battery is bad. If it doesn't turn on, a few other things could be wrong in conjunction with your battery being bad, one being your power supply not working...

ive checked the power and got readings through a voltage reader this is a old laptop I got giving ive tried changing the ram, hard drive and taking the battery and power supply as you suggested but sadly no joy. aparantly it worked fine 1 day and no sign of life the next day when tried switching on. I could strip it down but in true honesty cant be botherd am hopeing its something simple so I don't have to

The fact that it was working then stopped doesn't tell us much, that is always the case.

Do you ever see anything at all on the screen? If not it is sure to be a hardware fault.

If there are no signs or sounds of life a PSU failure is probably most likely (as already suggested). Check all connections too.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
