Specs: Windows xp, 2 gig ram unsure of cpu
hi i m triing to update my bios on my 945 series motherboard it is the (s2l) model ad i keep getting bios id check error can someone please help me?

Why are you trying to update your BIOS? If there is nothing wrong with your computer please don't bother with the BIOS. That error message is exactly the reason why you shouldn't update your BIOS until you really have to, that message means the BIOS "Update" you downloaded is not the proper BIOS image.

every time i try and install windows it goes through debugg and that but when it gets to setup is starting windows it freezes every time in the same spot. or i put an old hdd in it with windows already on it and it gives me a nother error message like mug.error or something

Whatever the problem is, one thing you can be 99.99% sure about, it is not the BIOS. BIOS do not just stop working. Besides, trying to update the BIOS on a computer that is not booting properly is the quickest route to total disaster.

You problem is most likely to be hardware related. First try reseting the memory and then run a memory check. Check for overheating.

Trying to boot from a hard disk with Windows XP already on it from another computer never works unless the hardware on the computer it came from is identical the hardware you are trying to boot on.

I agree with StuartS, your problem has nothing to do with the BIOS. And as he stated, you can't just swap a HDD with XP already installed on it. It will NOT work. That's by Microsoft design, not because there's a problem.
