Hi,

I have a hewlett-packard pavilion that was giving me problems with various error messages. I tried loading antivirus and upon reboot, the system would not turn on even in advanced options it didn't matter. I could never get to the boot screen.

My only recourse was to do a hewlett packard system recovery which I did, and btw, it seemed to take longer than it should of (nearly 10 hours). When I retried booting the system, I came up with the same problem.

I've tried fixing the MBR and other options to no avail, it still hangs before it can boot to the windows splashscreen.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Tony

Hi,
What were the error messages you were getting and when (during boot?)?

hi,

There were no error messages given, it just takes me to the advanced options screen with the several advanced option boots: safe mode, safemode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last known good configuration, etc.

From there, it won't boot regardless of what option is chosen.

Do you have another computer to put the drive into to save any files you need off of it? If you are getting to the Windows splash screen you are getting past the mbr. If you did a recovery that just puts all the Windows files back the way they were when it was new(like a repair install would if you were using the XP disk). If it's getting past the mbr and all the Windows files are replaced, it has to be something else that didn't get replaced or erased on the recovery. I think you will have to do a full restore, which is probably one of the other options to your hp restore or recovery disks( I use to have a pavilion and had 2 options, 1 to do a repair where it just replaces Windows files and you keep your personal files. 2.Where it replaces everything, erasing ALL files). If you have another computer to save all the files on you will be set.

hi,

i have the same problem with my hp, it takes me to the advanced options screen and after i pick one it just goes blank

one of my friends said he thought it could be a problem with the motherboard or with the hd

we tried reformatting 3 or 4 times, the 1st time it worked for about 2 weeks before doing the same thing, the next few times it would work maybe a day or so.. the system i have is pretty good and i'd like to be able to fix it, but im not sure what to do

do i need to replace something? is my windows disk messed up somehow? any help would be nice, im completely lost
