Please, somebody help me. My hewlett packard xe4500 with pentium 4 1.6ghz running windows xp won't get to the logon screen where you choose who to logon as. I just installed a hotfix so I think that might be the problem but I can't get into the system to uninstall it. The computer just hangs on that little windows symbol on the blue background in the middle right of the screen. I've tried booting in safe mode but it does the same thing. I also just set up a local area network but I don't think that has anything to do with it.
Somebody please help me.

Safe Mode Didn't Do The Job? :>(
Then the next option should be "Last Configuration That Worked"
You should know the routine, "press F8 when booting,etc.........."Also try booting when minimal drivers. And remember to uninstall that hotfix as soon as you get in.
This also might help. Get a Windows 9x disk and run disk checking on your hard drive, ie if you hava Floppy drive.

Believe it or not, I went through every single option under the 'f8 when starting up method' but it still didn't work. It always just stops after that windows symbol comes up with the same background as the 'welcome screen'. It's the one where there's usually white text underneath saying starting windows or something, and if you shut down it says saving user profiles and 'windows is shutting down'. I really need to get back into the system, 'cause believe it or not, it's not mine and it's starting to look like I've screwed it up. Is there a way to get into the system and circumnavigate the logon screen so i can just copy files onto a floppy?

Hi.. I have an HP Computer as well.. my advice is contact Hewlett Packard at 208-323-2551 (USA) or 905-206-4663 (Canada) They are very nice and extremely helpful. I hope you get your problems solved... Good luck

OK, I sort of fixed it. Well not really, but I just re-installed windows xp home, but not the hewlett packard edition. Then, after it was installed everything started up fine again but the file type recognition was completely screwy even though all the programs were installed. Oh well, at least that I was able to back everything up that was important and then install win xp professional. Thanks everyone for your help
