Hi actually i m helping my fren asking it.
she has a Compaq Presario 1500. now the winxp is really stuff up and need to format and reinstall winxp. however all the discs that come with the laptop when boughted has lost..=( so my question is..
if i go out to shop and buy any winxp pro.. can it install it into this laptop?.. (u know some laptop like DELL brand which have to use special Winxp CD which provide by Dell be able to install on Dell's laptop..)
thanks and hope someone who has use this comp or similar compaq computer who can give me some advice.. thanks..

If you have a D partition called System_sav then
go here--
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/
then click Software and Downloads,
then enter Product information.
Note- You may need a better number than 1500.
(like mine is Presario 5320US)You will finally get to a page for downloads.
One of them may be a link for ordering a Recovery CD, or QuickRestore CDs.A Recovery CD restores computer to factory condition from data that is on D-partition.
QuickRestore CDs are for installing on new harddrives.
Both are alot cheaper than an XP CD.
Like I paid $11 for QR CDs.

yes thanks for reply.. "chuck2" yup alot cheaper.
so what u mean is only a recovery CD or quickrestore CD from HP will work?..
because when laptop boughted it was install winxp home edition.. and my fren want winxp Pro edition now..~ so i think inside the QR CD from HP r wnxp home edition too..would the Original Winxp Pro will work on this laptop?.. i heard it might works but after install it might have hardware problem like not working etc..
thanks..

A real WinXP CD from the store should load on fine, but if it is an "upgrade" version, you must have the qualifying product CD to insert when asked for verification.
Drivers, if needed, should be easy to find on the manufacturer's web site.
