Help..can't open jpg files!!!

I'm running Windows XP and have Lotus Notes. When I try to open jpg files emailed through Lotus Notes, I get the message that no file format information could be found in the registry. When I detach the file into My Documents, I can open it fine then. Any ideas? Should I reinstall the Microsoft office tools which has the Photo editor?
