Hi,
I haven't had this feature on my machine (or at least it never worked) when my hdd was formatted in FAT32, but after I reformatted it in NTFS I get this Windows File Protection message almost every time someone logs in and works in user (non admin) account. The message keeps telling me that some system files need to be restored, etc. I realize that that's total bulls---, because no files were modified, and that the system just doesn't work properly, because it fails to update certain files for reasons unknown to me.
Anyway, at first I wanted to disable the File Protection altogether. But the method required me to HEX edit some system files, and I chose not to, because I'm afraid it will lead to a disaster later on (when it's time to install SP2, for example). So my question is, is there any way to prevent the damn message from popping up every time and asking me to insert the installation CD?In other words, I want the copy the damn system files from the original CD to a safe location on the hard drive, where Windows File Protection system would automatically find them and quietly update whatever files were "damaged".
I've heard something about the dll cash or something like that. But I don't have time on my hands right now to perform a full scale investigation, I need to create a ghost image of my hdd as soon as possible.

First of all you need to do a system file check like it says. Just put in your cd and then click on start/run and type in
sfc /scannow.
This will stop the messages.
If you want to ghost your HDD, there is a free program called clonexp that will do just that. Just do a Google search.
