it says there's no audio device in the sounds,game controller section.. no speaker icon to check or audio being used by other device.. what other device? How can I find other device?

thank you.. I downloaded the audio driver... but.. I an a COMPLETE computer idiot.. I tried reading Windows for Dummies and it was too advanced for me.. I need help for stuplid people

I downloaded the drivers.. it still says no sound device and no mixer whatever that is.. I have a 4 port hub plugged into the front port because the back one doesn't work.. In the port I have my mouse, printer and camera and gps that are just plugged in, not in use.. I don't know what to look for or what to do. thank you for trying to help

Ok, then did you install them? If so, were there any warning or error messages? Are you sure you downloaded the proper ones for your specific model? Have you tried rebooting after you installed them?"I have a 4 port hub plugged into the front port because the back one doesn't work"

... as "Response Number 4" asks ... the download was it an "exe" file right click "install" or did you extract the files from a compressed archive before you installed the driver ??

modem #2 line playback.. theres an arrow at the end of the box that points down.. when I click on the arrow it says
modem# 2 line playback so there is a choice of the same thing.. nowhere on the sounds is there a line that says click to put on taskbar...

the sound card is listed under sound games and controllers where no device was, but there is still no check to put on taskbar.. and no sound for cd's or games..( I really appreciate you helping me young man.. but FYI the "dam" in your sentence is misspelled.. it's damn.. the dam is what stops the flow of water in a river or stream...:) )

nope no sound from headphone and still nothing from media player... did I mention that my speakers are usb with a green colored wire that I plugged into the port and connected the green wire to the green hole? I can hear them buzzing and I hear a sound on the internal speaker (sound, game controller thing) but nothing anywhere else

speakers didn't come with cd... the internal sound is a beep when you're checking sound.. there's the WAV check which says there's no device.. and the internal speakers.. internal plays on speakers.. the only other sound from speakers is clicking when changing screen from desktop to yahoo mail or whatever.. I know they work, because they worked before... I had to completely crash this one a couple days ago.. and had to install everything.. I did systems operation cd, then drivers then applications.. ( I'm begining to hate computers) This is my back up computer.. my other one is in need of a new power card.. you plug it in and push the power button.. and nothing.. no light no nothing.. so I'm back to this old one ( don't know if you care.. just giving you info to what I did and why)

... by "Speaker settings" click> advanced then move the speaker setup dropdown to show speakers
... then click the "advanced" under "Device volume" click options (tab) click properties and "check/tick" everything under "show the following volume controls"
... making sure nothing is muted

I ran the mms thing.. now it says NO SOUND DEVICE!!! the speaker isn't on... the speaker setting is gray so you can't click on anything... I don't know if the drivers are on the cd or not.. I tried playing in media player... then in iTunes.. I tunes says it's configured wrong.. media player didn't say anything.. it was playing, but no sound coming from speakers
so where did SB Audio thing go?? GEEZ.. I'm about to give up..

I don't know what else to do.. I have a feeling I won't live long enough to resolve this issue..I really thank you for trying..if there's anything else I can do let me know.. should I crash it again.. At least that I'm getting good at LOL...

Coming here late so forgive me if I miss something. Do you have a dial up modem installed? A TV tuner card? I ask because it appears your sound is being exclusively used by another device. Modems with answering device capability use sound. TV tuner cards also use sound. May be other devices too, those come to mind.
Also, are you using integrated sound or add in? If you have both you may have the other one set as the default or exclusive device. Sound properties asks if you want to ONLY use a certain device or any available.

no I have broadband..The only things connected to computer are: 4 port hub, printer, mouse, keyboard and speakers..I have no idea what program/device is using what drivers or anything.. I'm just a little old lady trying to get sound... I know the speakers worked before I crashed it..but I reinstalled windows, drivers and applications after crash.. only then did no audio device show up..I have checked everything listed above, but it still says no audio device

I have never seen USB connection speakers.

That doesn't sound like USB speakers. Is there additional wiring to the speakers besides the green wire?
Post the serial number of your computer. It is on the rear.

ok.. some idiot... (ME) didn't exactly install the audio sound blaster... oops.. I installed them now.. and they say they're there, but I still have no sound.. there is nothing with an exclamation mark.. I ran everything on the list... devmgmt thing and the sys thing.. nothing.. I'm going to try a cd..

seriel# 0028776145 I finally got sound when I went back and reinstalled the sound blaster cd that came with it... so it kinda works.. just not very good.. kinda garbly or like 2 programs running

I am SO ready to throw this %#&^ computer out the window.. I have tried to restore it several times.. it all says cannot be restored.. but it doesn't tell me what to do to FIX it.. My audio driver says working properly.. nothing is muted.. sound is all turned up ... speakers installed.. STILL no sound.. should I just crash the damn thing and start over?

I don't know... I tried updating drivers now I get an error message:
C:program file\common files\installshield\engine\6\intel32\iuser.dll..........what does that even mean???Right now I'm downloading my music files to an external storage and gonna crash this piece of crap and start over.. thank you for all your help... people have been trying to help me for over a week... so I give up and gonna crash and make sure I install ALL of the cd's that came with it... I wish the answers from the computer fix it programs that came with it would just say... hey you've got a problem here... to fix it go there and do this... (this is computer fixing for idiots like me that just like to play the games from big fish and receive and answer email.. and check the weather :) some of us (me) should stay in the dark ages where we belong and leave the electronical stuff to you young whipper-snappers... again I thank you ( the whole website) for your help...

I disagree,
I think you're perfect for this ("electronical stuff"). Most posters would have given up at about Reply #7. You stuck with it and got it fixed, probably learned a lot in the process.
Age isn't a factor unless you let it be.
There is nothing to learn from someone who already agrees with you.

After i spent months trying to fix mine i installed uninstalled rivers then i went to my system tools opened up the services part and started to go throught them...It turned out that my audio was off nor else check in youre device manager that its on...

I have learned a lot just by trial and error... and crashing and reinstalling.. but I just can't seem to get the hang of binary language.. That's what I liked about Apple.. it was more user friendly.. I did a restore here so I should be good for now.. This is my back-up.. I have a HP all in one entertainment center that blew a power board.. As soon as I get if fixed, this one will go back in the closet.. again thanks for all your help.. I didn't notice there were so many different people helping till I looked at the usernames.. DUH... Keep up the good work.. there are many people out there that can use all the help they can get.. me included...have a great summer..
