Help with removing a partition

I recently bought a new computer with Windows XP, and I installed my old hard drive in it for some extra storage. The old hard drive was partitioned, but now I want to un-partition it and make it one large drive.
The Maxtor utility that came with the old HD only sets the partition, but it doesn't remove it. Is it possible to remove a partition in Windows XP? I know it can be done with some third party software, but I really don't want to spend the money.

You should be able to delete and recreate the partition using Disk management in the computer manager. The computer manager is located in the control panel under Administrative tools.
