PowerQuest's Master Error List is down. Enter the exact error Error 1831 Image file not found in the PQ KB search engine here:

Solution: Error 1831 reported when creating image

If Drive Image used Caldera DOS to reboot the computer in preparation for creating the image, try using a different version of DOS to boot the computer, and then run Drive Image manually.

For example, boot the computer with a Windows 98 boot diskette, and then run Drive Image from the second Drive Image Rescue Diskette (the "Program" diskette).

Problem Description:
Error 1831
Error 1831 reported when creating image

Problem Environment
Drive Image 5.0x
Caldera DOS

I was able to get it to run but it would not reconise any hard drives. When I did a backup from within Windows it split the image into 4 for some reason. I have a copy of Drive image 7 but I dont have the cd so I am not sure how to create a rescue disk. It appears that I will need the original disk to boot from.?????

Tut, tut Navigator1, why don't you have the CD?

Anyway, you may find the image has been split if you have a FAT 32 file system - you need NTFS to hold larger file sizes (I think it's over 4 gb but I'm not sure)

I am using NTFS. I can get my hands on the disc but it will involve time and a trip in the car. Didnt realize I needed it to boot from as previous version will create rescue discs.

Hmmm...odd one

There is an option in DI7 for seperating and backing-up large files into smaller blocks. Check to see whether you have that option enabled or not.
