Does this happen literally as soon as you plug in the external
monitor, or is there a delay before you get the blue screen of
death?

Also what is the model of the laptop, and the monitor? My
initial thoughts were of a driver issue or a driver corruption,
but it seems that you've already tested that. Sill might be
worth running a driver correction tool though.

a few instructions :

1. try safe mode : i'll tell u why..in the safe mode the video card doesnt need any drivers
as it runs on the default driver (video.sys). so if the issue is because of a driver corruption ur monitor
should work fine.

2. And let me tell you the troubleshooting now,....
You need to get in to the Safe mode and then Open the device manager....Right click on "My Computer">> Select Properties...>> Then select ... Hardware tab... select Device Manager.
Once you do that... identify the display card that you installed to connect your another moniter under Display adapter option... and remove that.

3. Restart your computer in Normal Mode.... It would ask you for display driver.. install it with manufacturer CD...
Once you do that.. It would work fine.....

Let me know if you face any problem doing that.

Hmm Im sure i posted a reply last night where i got it working.

I Found a newer driver then the previus one tried. This seems to have done the trick.

The error came when i disabled extended desktop, or just plugged out the monitor.

Sorry for "wasting" your time, but thank you very much for your effort on this!
