I installed windows media player 9 on a windows xp pro machine due to the fact I couldn't uninstall 7 either, and 9 had some useful codecs. Now I find that winamp can't play wma files anymore and I am quite perturbed. I don't know whether or not this is related to the WMA files or the fact that the files were transfered from my desktop. I know wma's don't like to be moved around. But that wouldn't make sense as a viable reason since they were downloaded in the first place.

Can Winamp simply not play the files at all anymore, or is Winamp no longer the default player for WMA's? Trying opening a wma file directly in Winamp instead of double-clicking on it.
If Winamp is still looking for the wma files on your desktop (i.e. from a playlist or whatnot) and they are no longer there...no, it's not going to find them.
