Can you help me with this UPGRADE please?
I thought it was SO simple to upgrade to Windows XP Pro. These two statemnts I have been sent say differently. I am inclined to beleive you can do it with out ANY bother.

First:

In response to your email, if you were to purchase the Pavilion dv1265ea notebook and installed Windows XP Professional, it would result in all data on the hard drive being lost. This includes drivers and software. There is a possibility that Windows XP Pro may have in-built drivers for some of your hardware, but other drivers may need to be sourced personally from third party web-sites.

Unfortunately there will be no way to reinstall the software, such as Word 2002, onto the system. This is due to the recovery process our laptops use. The only way to recover this software, is! to restore the system back to it's factory settings with Windows XP Home.

Also, as this machine is built and designed around the Windows XP Home Operating System, we would be unable to provide support for this machine with Windows XP Pro installed on it. If you upgrade and require support, you would either need to speak to Microsoft, or do a system restore back to factory settings of Windows XP Home.First:

Second:

We have run your questions past our IT person at your colledge and the following are the answers:
1. XP Home does not allow you access to parts of our network so that you would have to buy an upgrade when you get here.
2. Such an upgrade will not affect the settings etc nor wipe the hard drive, it simply adds more nuts and bolts.

Ok, firstly i upgraded windows XP from XP Home to XP Pro and i lost all my data:
See here for more info http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q312369

Also you will lose word 2002 because it came preinstalled on your laptop. Therefore you are unlikly to have a disk for this. You will need to purchace a new word 2002.

Hope This Helps
