Comment:

I have two hard drives, one is 80GB - 7200 RPM and the other is 60GB - 5400 RPM. I want to run at least Win2000 and XP and maybe 98. Should all the operating systems go on the 7200 RPM drive? And I'm going to create a partition for the swap file. Should that go on the 7200 RPM drive too? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

install mutliple os's in chronological order. eg 98 then 200 then xp. do not create a partition for the pagefile as this is not good practice with windows. you can place the pagefile on a different disk from the operating system but do not put it on another partition on the same disk.

You will have to make a choice about 98 ... it needs to install on a FAT32 partition and will not see XP or 2000 if they are NTFS .

I wouldn't worry about 98 with the other two you will be busy enough keeping them maintained.

Also I would think about installing XP on C: and using a boot utility like System commander to take control so if you ever want to uninstall the older OSs you will not loose XP ... as it doesn't liked being moved around to other partitions once it has loaded..

Give your OS partitions about 10 gig each and your swap file in partition on Slave...it will read it faster than being on same HDD...

I know all this because I have just done similar setup and works beautifully ..

Hope this helps JIM..
