Hi all,i get a "rundll32 - Application Error" with the following message:
'The instruction "0x77f83905" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "written". Click on OK to terminate the program.'This is when i go to change a desktop theme or anything with my display properties.
This just recently happened. It started when the other day i right clicked on the desktop, cose properties and went to change a theme but guess what? the tabs up in the display box where they sould be appearing are not there anymore!
Yes i have tried fixing the problem by uninstalling my graphics driver and installing the lastest GeoForce 4mx driver from NVIDIA but it hasnt rectified the problem.
If anyone else has come across this problem or knows a way to help me fix it, it would be a tremendous help.
Thanks

hi,
have you checked your system for adware/spybots? did you find some and then try to fix them? sometimes the adware will attach it self to a program u have downloaded and then when you try to remove them they will take out other things with them and cause simmilar problems.
You mentioned themes... some adware comes attached to a dwmlded screensaver and these are a real pain if you tried to use the add/remove windows app to remove the old scrnsvr without using its' own uninstall program. they will remove the rundll32 files it was attached with operations. If these are something you did before this started happening, then try to reinstall the programs and then use their own uninstall directions to remove them.
Hope this helped,
rc

Hi,
thanks for helping. i did uninstall one program and tried reinstalling 2 see if it helped but hasnt made a change. i used adware and spybot, ended up fining 4 bots and removed them.
Any other ideas to rectify this matter?
would repairing XP help installing some corrupted rundll32 files at all?

Repairing XP would fix it, yes, but i can't remember if it fubar's your registry or not (if it does, all your installed programs will not work, except for a select few that dont need registry entries)
You might want to check with someone else on that, cause whenever i need to fix windows i just reformat, heh.

If u have not tried repairing ur OS then u can try restoring ur system to a previous know good date of which u know that ur system was wrokin properly. This can done through msconfig
