A few days ago I noticed that I was getting a lot of pop-ups while on the Internet. I thought it was strange because I use to not get any. I use Popup manager I think it’s called.
To make a long story short I updated my virus definitions and it found nothing (Nortons). A friend told me he was sure that I had a Trojan, so I ran McAfee and he was correct. It found Belt, and optimize. I let McAfee put these programs or what ever they’re called in quarantine.
I was OK until this morning when McAfee found optimize.exe again. I’m sure that I’m getting this off the internet but don’t have a clue where. I’m sure that I got it yesterday and all that I visited was news sites, and did do a google search on a kid’s camera and visited a lot of those sites.
What I’ve done. Check msconfig,,nothing there except what’s suppose to be.
Checked my start-up folder
Went to add/remove. Nothing listed there that’s not supposed to be there
How can I tell if this Optimize is really gone this time?
WinXP, cable modem, firewall McAfee
Thanks Karen

Take a look here:

You may also try running AdAware 6 and Spybot Search & Destroy freely available over the
Web.

Check ur Downloaded Program Files folder.
for a file u dont know.thats where it gets in. check the properties and dependency tabs and delete file from there and ur registry. u may have had 2 or 3.exe files under guise of Downloader Dyfica. check this post also:

I just took care of downloader dyfica and optimize.exe. Go to downloaded program files folder, there you'll find the folder named opitmizer exe. just delete it and you'll be ok. but, be VERY careful with ADAware6, I installed it and got a trojan called: trojan downloader. What's worse, norton pro, couldn't remove it. good luck give it chance and keep me updated

The first hit on Google told me that optimize.exe (NOT optimizer.exe) is an adult porn site dialer. My ZoneAlarm firewall was asking permission for it last night and I denied it, then looked it up. Anyway, this site wanted to sell me a program called WinTasks4 Professional which seems legit but I just want to get rid of optimize.exe. Below is their site with the information:

I also got this optimize.exe and can't get rid of it. Tried delete and de-install - it says 'remove write protection' and keeps sitting there. SpyBot didn't do anything either.
???

Finally optimize.exe is gone from my system. I manually deleted all related registry entries.
