Help regarding setting permissions

through sharing security feature in XP i changed the rites to access a folder n i didnt gave any group of rites to access that folder
tht folder contained sum of my inportant documents now i m not able to access tht folder
even i hav formatted OS twice

when i try to use tht folder there is an error tht folder not accessible access denied
when i try to change its persmissions it says
"YOU DONT HAV PERMISSION TO VIEW PERMISSIONS TO CURRENT PERMISSION SETTINGS OF FOLDER but you can change it "

when i try to change it , it says unable to save permission access denied

i m using all this in administrator mode

please help me out
