Hi. If anyone would please help me. I have Windows XP Home edition 2002, 2.0 GHz/ 256 MB of RAM. My problem is:

Pop up ads will not go away. I already did a virus scan and my computer has been cleaned of the virus it had. Now it says I have no virus, but the pop up ads won't stop. Every time I open Internet Explorer or My Computer, ads will pop up.

Does anyone know how I could safely remove whatever is making these ads pop up.

Thank you very much, I would greatly appreciate any advice I could get.

Thank you jameco. I did think about doing that but before I do that, can you tell me if the popup stoppers will remove the applications that have been installed in my computer dealing with the pop up ads?

Once again thank you for your help.

Some pop up stoppers will stop cookies that you actually need. pick the one that gives you an option to omit. Most of the good ones also disable java. so if you have an application that requires java, it wont load up. Just learn about the pop up stopper. Do some research. Zone Alarm and Nortons Antivirus combination works so good for me.

Thank you so much to you all. I am looking up at the links suggested. I have another question.

In searching for free spyware and adware removal applications, does anyone recommend that I get a separate adware stopper and a separate spyware stopper?

Or is it better to download a free adware and spyware removal?

Thank you so much for the help. :)

I have found the Spybot S&D in the http://www.safer-networking.org/ link. It says it does both spyware and adware removal.

Have you had any problems with it? I currently have McAffee Virus scan. So will the Spybot interfere with McAffee?

Thanks once again. :)

I suggest getting the google toolbar because it comes with a popup blocker and if you're like me, you'll use the search field at least 20 times a day. Also download these three programs:

Ad-Aware
Spyboy - S&D (version 1.3 just came out so be sure to get that one)
SpywareBlaster

SpywareBlaster makes sure that no ActiveX controls get loaded and is always running in the background and will really prevent most adware to put on your comp. Then just keep your antivirus software going all the time (i suggest Norton or if you want a free one Avast, which is what i use) and you should be all set.

P.S. Keep all those programs updated and you'll never get adware again

E-mail me if what I said helped, it's part of the 12 steps.
