I've searched & searched the internet, but to no avail, so I'm turning to the pros. I'm not having any type of problem with my PC, but I can't remember a specific piece of code for opening html file types in the SAME Internet Explorer window. Specifically, I edit & view a lot of html docs using Internet Explorer. Each time I open a new doc, it opens in a new window & I have to manually close the last one. I know where the change should be made, but need help to close the deal. I go to ...
Tools ->
Folder Options ->
File Types ->I then scan down the various file extensions until I find & highlight HTML ...
I then click Advanced, then highlight the Open command & click Edit & here I am ...
somewhere in here there's a way to tell it not only to use IE when opening HTML files, but also there's a way to tell it to open each html in the SAME window.
I used to know, but can't remember. I seem to recall something that used the word "home". Please HELP!!

Thanks, but so does IE & I didn't want to install another browser just for that. Anyway, I figured it out by tediously clicking every file type that uses IE to open it & then checked the Open commands for each hoping that some file type somewhere was configured to open in the same window. For anyone else interested in NOT having Internet Explorer open a new window each time it opens a particular file type, it's a very simple fix (albeit hard to find) ...
Using the steps above to find the file type you want to do this on, highlight "Open" & then click "Edit". In the field where it says "Application used to perform action:"
add the following command at the end ...
- nohomeIf using Internet Explorer, it will look like this ...
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome
That's it. That command will work with many programs where you'd prefer to open in the same window.
Thanks guys!
