Hey there,
I'm running Windows XP Home with a AMD 1.4 Ghz CPU, 524 MB NVRAM and such. My problem is.. when I plug my headphones into the sound card to do some private listening, I can max out the volume in volume control as well as winamp, and the volume is just not loud enough. It is actually rather soft. I am aware there is a setting in winamp to increase volume by going to preset headphones, but that is not enough. I am using an on board sound card (Motherboard is a ECS k7s5a btw), SiS7012 Audio Card. I have the latest drivers and such.. Is there any way to boost the volume when I'm doing some headphone listening? Would getting a new sound card enable me to increase the volume? Thank you so much for reading and attempting to help me. Much Appreciated,
Vance

Hi, double left click the speaker icon next to the clock and check to see if the sliders are all the way up.

They are all the way up. I've maxxed out the volume in winamp, and the volume control. Still not loud enough.

On the soundcard, does it support a direct connection to a headphone? Most sound cards these days only provide a line level output. Your headphones may need a pre-amp for the audio. Do your speakers have a headphone jack? If so, try that one, they run off of the speaker amplifier and have plenty of signal and should cut out the speakers once it is plugged in. Good Luck

There is a headphone jack on my sound card. However, when I plug it in, there is no sound on my headphones. Do I need to change some settings in windows to get it working? Also, what is a pre amp? Thanks again,
Vance

You may need to change settings. Some cards have a dual purpose Aux and Headphones jack. Have you tried plugging your headphones into the jack on the player instead of the one on the card? Also, is the volume on the player at max?
And finally, some cards have separate volume controls for the headphones. Check for this if you have not alredy done so.

There is usually a volume control on the CD-ROM or other h/w used for playback. That is one type of player. The other possibility is your s/c. Some, if not all, have separate s/w controls for the different typs of devices plugged into them. My Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, for example, has a separate slider for the cd-rom in the mixer panel located in its control panel.
