Hi, I have a virus which is apparently quite new and I cant get rid of, it has done the following odd things to my computer;

When I first got it i tried to system restore to get rid of it, but I can no longer system restore succesfully (even though it is enabled).

It has hijacked my homepage to res://akcyh.dll/index.html#96676

(i believe the akcyh is random as a desperate net search to combat this thing came up empty on that, but positive on the #96676)

It has stopped me from accessing merjins pages.

cwshredder and spybot 1.3 have not helped.

Please help me, be aware I am semi-computer literate so include 'for idiots' stuff in the instructions.

It may just be a Browser Hijack and not a virus. What makes you think it's a virus? Has your anti-virus program detected it? First, I'd install Adaware, available from www.lavasoft.de. Update it and scan your drive. It should pick up any malware/spyware. Just delete whatever the scan finds.

Sorry, i was just using virus as a general term for computer bug.
Is it safe to just delete EVERYTHING adaware shows up? I just ask because without system restore working and not being an expert i want to be careful.

Hey zarathustra,

It is pretty safe to delete anything that Ad-aware finds. I haven't had any problems.

After you get Ad-a-ware and run it, also do a search for Spyware Blaster and run that as well. Spyware Blaster will help keep the spyware and others from getting into your registry. But make sure that your system is clean before you run it.
