HELP, Need A total System Restore

I need help, I try to do a complete system restore by inserting the system restore cd when I first boot. It loads up a restore menu, but then says that windows xp needs at least 330mega bytes free for installation. No problem I'd of thought - at least 40 gig left on harddrive. It says no room for installation, please press enter to continue and it takes me to dos. I switch to C: drive to check size and it reports it at only around 10 megabytes in total space available. A list of files / DIR just returnes the basic DOS commands etc..and no mention of any other files I have on there. Why will it not pickup the correct size of the disk so I can restore Windows? All I want to do is restore it to the day I first bought it. I have done it before on previous systems. Any Ideas?

Is the drive formatted as Ntfs? If so that could cause this. You'll need to use a Win9x bootdisk with fdisk on it to delete the partition first.
