Hey all,
I recently got a second computer, and decided to set myself up a home network. I have a linksys router, 2 NIC cards, cable modem. I hooked up everything correctly, and I got everything to work, for about a day. When it worked I could share files and access the internet from both computers. Now, if I reset the network(turn everything off then turn on the router>modem>cpu1>cpu2), then cpu2 gets the internet for about 5-10 min. I have no idea what changes when it goes offline, but it does. I need help!

CPU2 can share CPU1 or not after disconnect Internet. Check/Reset Router first.

Nope, I can't share(or ping) the other computer. By the way it's a linksys router.

You could have a flakey NIC in the 2nd computer. If I was there trouble shooting the problem myself I would whip out my handy dandy USB NIC and see if the problem persisted. You also might want to try a different CAT5 cable.

Also, are you using any type of software firewall? If so disable it. This goes for the one built into Windows XP.

I still say flakey NIC but then again, it could be something else. Post back with more info if you can about what you have done/not done.

I doubt its the CAT5 cable, the router still sees it at all times. As far as what I have done, that is very little. The way I see it, the settings should be correct, seeing as the network worked for a day or so. It has to be a hardware issue. I'm going to replace the NIC card in CPU1... Guess and check..
