my HD is 40GB and its layout was as follows
primary 1 - 9.76GB with win xp pro (drive c in my computer)
primary 2 - 9.76GB clone of above partition with xp, made using savepart (drive g in my computer)
rest of the HD is extended partition with 3 logical drives two 6GB (drives d & e)and the other about 6.75GB (drive f)
everything was fine, and i used to have my data in the first logical drive of the extended partition (drive D in my computer)
suddenly, all i could see in my computer were drives c & d
also this d drive was not my original d drive, but it turned out to be the second primary partition (the xp clone)
also the size of this new d drive is reported as 9.76GB in my computer
but device manager shows it to be a primary partition of 29GB
i am sure all my data is still in the disk, and i beleive the problem might be a corrupt partition table. i do have some of my data backed up, but not all of it
what can i do to recover my data
please help since i have lost months of hard worki donot wish to sign

Some data recovery programs:

http://www.runtime.org/Zero assumption Recovery
http://www.z-a-recovery.com
I've been told that the free version will let you recover four folders.Partition Table Doctor
http://www.ptdd.comDo yourself a favor BACKUP!

can you see lost partitions in disk management (Right-click My computer - Manage - disk Management)?
you may also download any partition management utilities like Disk Director that are able to recover partitions.
