Hello,

I have a computer at home and everytime I turned it on, it suddenly restarts and when it booted up again, it runs the chkdsk thing (it searches for some errors bcoz the computer was not properly shut down which i didn't do after all). When it loads to the desktop an error appears saying "The system has recovered from a serious error". And everytime i boot up, same thing happens... What shall I do ?

Thanx for the BIG help :)

Are you sure it's doing chkdsk. It sounds like it is doing a system scan. If it is chkdsk, I would manually run it from the Recovery Console.

Boot from the XP CD
Select Recovery Console
Enter the admin password
type: chkdsk /r
Hit Enter and it will tell you it will perform this after a restart.

See if that solves the problem.

Something else you can do is Control Panel > System > Click on Advanced tab. Under Startup and Recovery, click on Settings.

Uncheck automatically restart.

Click OK, Apply, OK on the way out.

I'm not looking to be the bad guy of this post, but please watch the forum topics, because ones with please and help me, only make users not want to help as easily. I think that rule is here, and my apoligzes if it isn't.

Peace, one love. X to the Z.

Nope. It's not the rule here. The please and help me's don't affect me one way or the other; I only post when I believe I can help someone. But I see your point. An informational subject line draws more attention.

That said, politeness has never offended me. 8-)

Sincerely, Solarian

Not to be argumentative, but it is stated site policy (on the 'confirm post' page)

"Also, do not just enter the subject "help me," "please help" or something similar to that. That subject is useless for anyone who wishes to read the message or find help in the future. If you try to get around the "help me" ban by using a variant, your message may be removed."

Not sure how rigorously it's being applied, but I understand the reasoning.
