Hello, I have a computer at home and everytime I turned it on, it suddenly restarts and when it booted up again, it runs the chkdsk thing (it searches for some errors bcoz the computer was not properly shut down which i didn't do after all). When it loads to the desktop an error appears saying "The system has recovered from a serious error". And everytime i boot up, same thing happens... What shall I do ? Are you sure it's doing chkdsk. It sounds like it is doing a system scan. If it is chkdsk, I would manually run it from the Recovery Console. Boot from the XP CD Select Recovery Console Enter the admin password type: chkdsk /r Hit Enter and it will tell you it will perform this after a restart. See if that solves the problem. Pumfa

rockstar: Something else you can do is Control Panel > System > Click on Advanced tab. Under Startup and Recovery, click on Settings. Uncheck automatically restart. Click OK, Apply, OK on the way out. Solarian
