Delete the CD-ROM from Device Manager and restart your computer. Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.

You don't need special drivers for CD drives...they're already included in WIndows. Try Kevin's suggestion....

Here a couple of things you can try: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/XP_CD-DVD-Fix.zip
or if that doesn't work
1. Click on START button, the click on RUN 2. Enter REGEDIT and press enter 3. When REGEDIT starts, open up the following folders HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Control Class {4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} 4. After clicking on {4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} you should see two settings on the right-hand side: "Upperfilters" "Lowerfilters" Click on each of them, press DELETE and click YES.
Then close REGEDIT, shutdown & restart your PC

Hmm, none of thiese things work, it keep disapearing from the damn "my computer" its damn annoying. But the cd-rom fixer, just says I need to reboot all the time, even after I have rebooted, and with that regedit it was only uppwefilters and some other not any lowerfilters.. This is damn strange!

Is the drive visable in the BIOS?
If not, remove all CD/DVD software from Add/Remove Programs-----reboot and enter the BIOS, if you now see the drive(s) you should be good to go with re-installing the removed programs.
