Hey all, I've been a naive idiot tonight. I installed adaptec easy cd creaotr version 4 on my comp, which I soon found out is not compatible with xp. Immediately after doing so, Help and Support windows started coming up telling me to get rid of Easy CD Creator. So I did. After doing so, a window came up telling me about two obsolete files (I now assume they were my main drivers for my dvd-rom drive and my cd-rw drive) Here's where the stupidity set in, I though since they were obsolete, that I could delete them. As son as I did, my e: and d: drive icons disapeared from My Computer, and now my drives don't work, I downloaded some new drivers from Aopen and LG (the brands of my drives) but they only run from DOS. I followed the instructions..still no dice. How do I get my drives back?

Some people are like Slinkies™, not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs...

you havnt lost your drivers, windows xp has a fail safe program called windows file protection (WFP).i have actually tried to delete windows files before only to have them reappear before my very eyes.

Try using the add new hardware wizard to the roms working again.

or reinstall the adaptec program then uninstalll it without deleting those files.dont forget to reboot.

Hooner has the correct answer. You need to delete the upper and lower filters in the registry.
