ok so when i turned on my computer today i got this error thing that wouldnt let me start into windows. I got certain options like restart in dos, restart in dos networking, restart in dos something else, restart at the last known working configuration, and continue loading normally. i chose continue loading normally and it sent me back to the screen with the restart in screen. then i tried last good configuration same prob. Then i tried all of the other options... same prob. so then i decide to format my drive(ive done it many times). I put my winxp cd in and start the formatting process then it freezes at 29 ive been waiting about 1 hour for it to continue but nothing. Ive havnt used fdisk (cause i dont know how). All i did(and have dont like 50 times is put my cd in, push a key to continue, then push enter over the partition to reformat the partition. Thats how i normally did it and every time i did that it was succesful. I dont know whats wrong but ill give you my harddrive info: maxtor 120gb ata/133. so can u help me please?

use fdisk from a boot up disk or remove the partition and recreate a new one with the recovery console in the XP cd

If you bought the drive in a retail package, you should have received a CD/Floppy called MAXBLAST which can be used to test the hard drive. If you bought OEM I think you cn download the test program from the Maxtor site. Reinstalling 50 times (?), I'd look for other variables as the cause of the failure.

the maxblast disk doesnt work so forget about that it keeps giving me errors. I used this floppy disc that came with my computer and i tested the ide harddrive. It says:
Test Errors
IDE Disk - Confidence Test :Fail
Result Code:0F00-133E
Msg:IDE device failed: A possible failure is predicted by the drive's S.M.A.R.T(Self-Monitoring, analysis, and reporting technology) status. It is advisable to immediately back up your and it stops there... should i replace my drive now?

continued from last page...
The drive failed to perform the confidence test properly. This may indicate that the drive needs to be replaced(if this is a removable media device, try diffrent media)
