if you just need a basic win32 environment which can be used with any computer, get BartPE, grab PeToUSB and prepare a bootable flash memory card.

if you need a fully functional windows XP installation (incl. all drivers for a particular computer) then it is getting tricky. the key is the Hitachi Microfilter Driver which will 'fool' windows to accept the flash memory card as fixed drive.

the folks over at www.eeeuser.com are very adept when it comes to tricky stuff like this.

read this wiki about installing windows XP onto flash memory cards.

Above may help if that is what you need.

I think you need an ide or sata cf adapter to use it like a fixed disk.

Not all adapters provide the correct info to the system to allow that. See info on box, it has to say something to the effect of what you want.

Get rid of pagefile on a cf anyway.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10
