Hi everyone,

Someone gave me a Pc, I was told that the PSU was faulty, which was the case, I bought a new PSU (300w) and fitted it into the PC.

It has the following specs:

p3 700Mhz
256mb RAM
30GB hard drive
Gigabyte motherboard BX 2000

The board is a bit outdated though, the pronlem is that I want to install XP, and once it boots up, and I press DEL to enter setup, then the keyboard stops functioning.

2) If I do not go to set but instead leave it to boot itself, it goes into a black screen and sayd NTLDR not found. There is a hard drive in it, but its new.

I just want to install a fresh XP

If the power supply that was in it had failed/burned out then it is possible that it took the mobo with it when it blew. The keyboard failing when entering setup is not a good sign. If you cannot get into bios then you cannot check/change boot order. You need to press DEL or F8 or whatever DURING boot not AFTER boot to enter setup. To get the NTLDR error means you have already attempted to instal XP so the drive already has a partially written masterboot record. What point did you get to the first time before the instal failed?
So far you are out the price of a powersupply plus "NEW" harddrive. You need to decide whether it's worth spending any more on someone else's cast off dud.

Have you downloaded the motherboard manual from Gigabyte? If so then find out where/how to reset the CMOS. There is usually a jumper. If you cannot find the jumper then simply remove the battery for a minute or two and replace it. Then see if you still get the keyboard problem when entering setup. Hope you can get it working without costing any more $$$

That could be a real rough problem. You have to enter the Bios to set the cdrom drive first in the boot up sequence.
Does the screen tell you to hit the `Del' key to enter the bios setup routine?

thanks all for your reply !

I got the manual off gigabyte, I will try and reset the CMOS, the most annoying thing is that when you want to set the boot order, the keyboard stops !

I know its an old machine, should I not be able to get it work, I will sell all the parts.
