Ok I have had an issue not only in xp but also in win98 with my cdrom / IDE channel.
this has been going on sporadically for the best part of two weeks now with no sign that i can resolve this myself.i can burn cdr`s and cdrw`s no problem, but have major trouble reading them back or even accessing the disk in explorer.
i have burned a few disks for someone else to try and they seem to be ok,
i have tried a differnt burner but the problem appears to be affecting this one too.Therfore i assumed it was the IDE ribbon, but after a switch and a replacement the problem is still there.
so im stumped !
could it be that the mobo is dodgy or could it be the firmware or the mobo bios ?
i have tried a clean install of xp but this didnt help and btw it reads old cdrs that were burnt long ago just fine.
AMD 1400 Tbird
mobo gigabyte ga-7vtxe (dual bios)
cdrw acer 20x10x40 on secondary master (multi word DMA)
ram 512 ddr
Thanks

go here and get FORCE ASPI ver. 4.6 http://www.dc1000.net/Downloads5.htm bottom of page. If you got your aspi from adaptec and installed it , it will look for adaptec hardware in the configuration and if it does not find it ,it will not work properly. force aspi will force the aspi layer on your system regardless of hardware. Do not use any version of 4.7 nothing but bad news for that one
