hey ppl
i cant install windows xp sp1 from the microsoft website. i have got xp pro and after cpl of secs the whole installation thing shuts down n says "setup cannot be completed" i have tried disabling my norton antivirus (as it said) n it still doesnt work...any help?? i closed all the programs too and i have tried approx. 20 times till now! it does the same thing. i m so frustated! n i checked the log in c:/windows it said this:Service Pack started with following command line: /Z

InstallFromFunction call in inf section "BuildType.DirId" failed.
***
Service Pack 1 Setup canceled.
***By the way, my windows xp pro is totally LEGAL! and it stops before it asks any cd key or anythin...jus installs cpl of files n then the main thing pops up n then vanishes after 1 min...plzz help me!!

OK I may have some info that might help you.
When using the Windows update site it never asks you for your cd Key, it just automatically verifies it from your system. If your Serial is blacklisted from microsoft then it will either continue to download files and just not install them or it will just give up and not let you start a download.1. have you installed xp on more than one computer?
2. have you loaned your XP cd to a friend?Either of these two could result in your serial being black listed.
If you know thats not it then try downloading the network install of the sp1, which is in the downloads section of windows.com It has all the sp1 files plus you can burn them to a cd for backup.
