Comment:
Ok, here's my story in a nutshell ...
My registry crashed on my XP install (virus I believe) and I ended up reinstalling Windows in a diffrent directory. However, my original documents folder was not accessible (shows 0 bytes). I was able to recover my data with a NTFS data recovery program, but I can't delete the folder and its taking up ALOT of space. I've tried everything from booting with xp cd to system recovery, to loggin in as adminstrator and taking control, to the above simple file sharing solution! I'm about to have to format and reinstall if I can't figure this out in the next day!!
Oh, one more thing... I went to start a file settings and transfer wizard to backup my current stuff so I could format and reinstall .... XP starts to backup the stuff in the folder I can't access!!!! Does this make sense??
You need to enable to show those hidden system folders Pull on C:\, now select tools/folder options Select VIEW Select SHOW HIDDEN FILES/Folders Uncheck Hide Known File Extensions Uncheck Hide Protected Operating System Files Click OK!
No luck with that ... I can actually see this folder ... it's just named "Wes" under the "Documents and Settings" ... I just can't access it or delete it and it's taking up space.
Another note, if I right click it, the Read-Only box is lightly greyed and checked... unchecking this and clicking ok does nothing .. .i go back in and it says it's read-only again ...
Ok, i give ... i'm formatting the drive ... I think I'll stick with FAT32 from now on since the XP holier than dos attitude sucks when you need to do something so simple as delete a folder ...
