Help! Cannot delete fonts

When I try to delete some fonts from the Fonts folder I get the message
"Cannot delete : Cannot find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path and file name."
Why can't I delete these fonts. Are the files in the Fonts folder not the actual font files but only shortcute?

When you go into Word or other word processor and click your Font menue, do all these show up as fonts? If you choose some of them, does the font on your project change? If it does, they are real fonts. I have never heard of font-shortcuts in the font file.
