This just started happening today. It worked fine until now.
I am on WinXP Pro.
I've scanned with the latest virus updates and it came up with nothing. My IE, Netscape, Outlook and Outlook Express are not working. Says page is loading but hangs. Same for email, just hangs. I can FTP and PING out just fine so the connection is there. I have switched Ethernet cables and routers as well as tried with DSL and Cable service (I have tried both). (4 computers on network and mine is the only affected by this).

Try running: 'netsh diag gui' in the RUN box. This will start XP's own network diagnostics test. Any errors will be shown in red.

Most likely, u have a configuration issue - could be wrong settings for DNS or Netbios not bound to TCP/IP.

Hope this helps

You should also download and intall update and run full scan of adaware.

Here is something I use for quick fix if internet is slow or wont work.

go to start run type in cmd

type the following exactly then hit enter each time after typing

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

ipconfig /all

Also go into your administrative tools
services

look in the right hand side for background intelligence right click and go to properties

stop the service then disable it. That helps tremendously at least it did for me.

Good Luck

On the affected computer, when you do ipconfig /renew, as above, tell me what message you get.

try running system restore

go to start->all programs->accessories->system tools->system restore.

choose "restore my computer to an earlier time" and click next. it's gonna come up with a calendar. now, make sure first that you haven't installed anything before the problem occured. doing system restore would delete/uninstall anything you've installed after that date.

in the calendar, choose a date that's in bold, when you think your computer was still workin' ok.

please be advised that this could also be a problem with the latest virus called qhost.exe, in which case you can still browse websites but only if you're using an ip address (e.g. http://127.0.0.1 or something).

hope this helps!

Pinging works like normal.
I restored the computer to yesterday when it was working, but that did not help.
ipconfig /renew gives me my machines local IP and name.

If you have McAfee antivirus you might look at it. It screwed two different computers of mine, ability to connect to the internet. Had to uninstall Mcafee to get back internet connection.
