U.S. Robotics makes good products.

How much are you willing to spend? US Robotics is one of the best but they're usually a bit pricey. I recommend a serial port modem rather than USB.

I wouldn't won't to spend more than $60 if it's possible. I did plan to go with a serial port modem.

It got good reviews when Newegg had it:

USR in My opinion sucks. I tried two different plug and play models on my laptop (Windows XP Professional SP2)"the last being model # USR-5637 and have NEVER got above a 36,600 connection speed. And only then it takes dialing several different numbers to even get that. 80% of the time it is 28,800. Goes for my earlier model too. I can pretty much rule out bad wiring cause I did a Direct wiring from the main box using Triple shielded RG6 coax for my set up to the connection box. No line noise. Had the phone company check it out also. It's not due to my ISP either cause I have another PC (8 year old Sony) and it uses the same dialup #'s and gets 44,00-45,500 connection 75% of the time. SuperMax and Data (one of the same conpanies) I have also tried and had even slower results. You get what you pay for.A senior tech over in the UK told me one of the reasons why USA modems are not as good as the ones overseas is because of the lead removed from them here in the states. He claims the lead helps keep the modem more stable during longer usage. I can't prove that fact but it seems possible. I think I am going to try a UK based model (brand?) not sure yet but $75.00-$100.00 range hopefully will help out.
