Help! Big audio problem

OS: Win xp home
CPU/Ram: 1.8Ghz 256mb ddr
Product: hp pavilion 403

I recently lost all sound when trying to play any mp3's or videos(mpeg, avi etc...). reinstalled all codecs. still not working. Will still play things like .midi files. Dont know what to do!! Any suggestions i would really appreciate. Thanks.

Double click the speaker in the notification bar (Systray) and check the volume controls to make sure they not muted.

Do yourself a favor BACKUP!

Try reinstalling the drivers for your sound card/device.

Thanks Guys. Turns out my wave vol had been muted. Perhaps I should troubleshoot a bit more thoroughly next time. :s
