Comment:

Im running XP Pro and every time I try to click on Help I get a message that states "Windows cannot open Help and Support because a system service is not running. To fix this problem, start the service named Help and Support." I cannot find this service anywhere. I have checked System under Control Panel and it is not there. I have checked the XP disk and cannot find it there. Any help would be appreciated.

Do this simple thing.
Find your XP disk as you will need it.
Click on start/run and type in sfc /scannow. Note the space between c and /. This is system file check and it will reinstate ALL system files back to original state. This is the closest thing you can do short of a reinstall. It works most of the time. It also takes 15 to 20 minutes so don't rush it.

The Help and Support Service can be found in the Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services.

Double-click on Help and Support, change the Startup Type to Automatic, and under Service Status, click on Start.

Hope this helps!

Thanks both of you for the help, but . . .
When I tried the sfc /scannow, it looks like a DOS box pops up on the screen and quickly disappears. Then nothing.

Help and Support is not in the Services list. I don't know where it is but I can't find it. Any other ideas?

I guess you could try a repair installation, you won't lose your data.
