Toshiba Sattelite 1800-s2

Specs: Windows XP, P3/ 256MB
I am working on a Toshiba Sattelite 1800-s254 with a 40gb hdd, the issue that i am having is when it attempts to boot up it goes to a screen asking for a "HDD Password:" I am unable to select a different boot device and I am unable to access the BIOS, when I swtich out the HDD for another I can acess both another disk drive and the BIOS, The person who owns the machine was hoping that I would be able to at the least recover the data off the drive. So I put the drive in an external encolusre that I have for laptop drives and again to no avail it attepmts to access the drive and then fails with no error. If anyone else has experienced this problem and has a solution that would be excellent.

Thanks

have you considered talking to dell??????????????????????????????????????

otherwise put the drive in a different system than the laptop so the bios lock doesn't come into play.

Give a person a fish, they eat for a day. Suggest they internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.

Dell??? "Toshiba Sattelite 1800-s254"

"HDD Password:" has nothing to do with the BIOS.

http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

Download and make the CD.
Boot from the CD.
Under hard drive tools there is a password util that should be able to remove it for you.

(I have seen the tool there but have never had to us it myself.)

I do not know what calling dell would accomplish, and as far as the UBCD I have that and it will not boot to the CD, I cannot access the BIOS to tell it to boot to CD first......so unfortunately I am still out of luck....

Thanks
