My master hard drive is running in PIO mode 4, although it is capable of UDMA mode 6. Seems as someone was fooling with my computer while i was away recently....how do I get the drive back into DMA mode 5 , as my mobo supports? I can't change it in the IDE channel properties, and it says use DMA if available, and nothing in the BIOS about it either. Can't do a system restore because I choose to turn off the feature. I've installed the latest SIS IDE driver for my mobo, an ECS K7S5A Pro. Any ideas?

This isn't really the answer you want but I beleive you'd be better posting on your MOBO vendors forums. I would imaging the setting is rather Hardware/bios than an XP setting . . . .

Remove the primairy IDE controller.
Reboot and it will be installed again to DMA mode, make sure your BIOS HDD is set to auto.
If you have data speed transfer problems windows XP sets the HDD to DMA 4,3,2 and finally PIO.
