About the modem speed:
5-10kb/sec on a 56k connection is EXCELLENT. Nothing at all to b*tch about. Depending upon the age of your house, how far you are from a switching station, how much line noise, ect... This could be a whole lot worse... and not much better.

The hard drive buffer is in the hard drive , you would need find out the manfacturer and model number and then find the specs at that manfacturer website. If you mean virtual memory for XP right click on the Mycomputer Icon, choose properties, advanced tab, under performance click the setting, then choose the advanced tab in that window and the virtual memory is at the bottom. Me Personal I just let windows manage it and I am happy with it. Good luck.

It's safe to say you cannot upgrade the buffer on your hard drive. You're stuck with what it comes with. I've never heard of a manufacturer who was willing or able to add memory to an existing buffer.

There is a legend of direct copies of the nonsense in the reference documentation, but yet none identified the power of any entris to BufferAgeTimeout, BufferIdleTimeout, VolumeAgeTimeout or whatever. If you want to find our about, you should refer to developers documentation in tne MS knowledge base or simply experiment. Besides, the entries made via FS Templates are most valuable. Check for Cacheman and changes made to registry.
