Some background
Recently I bought a gaming PC, it had some issues, so for a couple of months I was sending it back and forth and ended up changing the RAM, GPU and Processor, but it should be working now. I didnt install the OS at all in that time. So the technicians installed XP SP2.

Now, it started fine but it presented some problems shortly afterwards, tried installing some drivers and programs, installed Adobe Reader fine but other programs presented problems such as Oxc0000005 and some DLL files were either damaged or missing, or others would just not run at all(it would give me an error message)

Now, I tried reinstalling XP with my own OS(dont know if they used this one in the first place but I doubt it), at first it didnt start, but somewhy later I tried and worked, so I reinstalled it but it gave me several problems when installing with the following files;

dbgeng.dll
ntdll.dll
regedit.exe
dbghelp.dll
autofmt.exe
ntfs.sys
winntbbu.dll

Now, it completed installing ignoring those files but now, the PC will try to start, will load XP but will reset and begin loading the whole system from the start.

so yeah, what can I do?

thank you very much, I really would hate to send this thing back to support

Those files that didn't install are needed.

Is the cd clean. I have had even a fingerprint cause the cannot copy file message to come up.

Use a soft cloth...and yes even a mild soap and water can be used.

It could also be a bad sector on the hard drive, and those needed files are not getting copied correctly.

Check the cd for smudges.Test the hd for errors and then try a repair install.

At this point I would opt for a format and complete reinstall....after checking hd and cd.

Start the machine and open the cdrom tray and insert the xp disk. May have to shut down and restart. Idea is to get the cd in.

Then turn it on and go into the bios change the boot order to cdrom A: then C:

You need to be fast. Not knowing what machine you have it could be the del f6 or f12 key. Should see a message at bottom left of screen telling you which key...You only have a second to press the key down.tap, tap tap.

Select the save and exit option. Computer should the start the cdrom

I'd definitely agree with the suggestion to clean the CD with mild soap and water (pat dry with a soft cloth).

After booting from the CD, delete any existing partitions, then create a new one. I've found that XP's format function can leave traces on a partition, which may cause problems with the installation. Deleting the partition is more likely to leave no traces.

Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.

If the CD is simply scratched you might try the Brasso treatment. Brasso, the brass polish and cleaner, works wonders on scratched CDs.
Use a cotton ball, the cosmetics type, shake the Brasso very well, then dampen the cotton ball with the polish. Not drippy wet.. just hold the ball over the opening and flip the can upside down then back upright. Squeeze it to wet the entire ball then wipe the CD from the center out, radially, like wiping the individual spokes in a bycicle wheel. Follow that by wiping again with a clean, dry, cotton ball, then let the CD dry for awhile.
In 30 mins or so you may find that your CD works just fine.

The brasso has worked for me about 85% of the time so it is worth a try.

Don't forget to burn a new cd at some point.

Wondering:
Have you tried the cd in another machine?
Could be the cdrom drive.

Is the cd bootable?
I have an HP xp pro sp1 disk that won't boot.
It's factory! To get it to go I have to boot off A: then choose cdrom support....then start the install manually.

Thats why I ask.

Hope you get up and running soon.

An install should run perfectly clean (without any errors). If it doesn't, you probably have a hardware problem.

hey dude.. check your IDE/SATA cables... it could be the problem..or check your memory..i got kinda problem before.. the CD is Ok, the drives are ok.. but when the Setup copies the files from the CD to the memory before trasferring them to Hard drive.. it'll get corrupted if the RAM is bad.. and yes try resetting your BIOS atleast once.it should bring your BIOS to factory settings. and check your electric outlet.... it could be configured wrongly.. i mean the Neutral/Phase/Earth might have been swapped.. i've seen such cases.. it will easily damage your RAM, HDD and motherboard..
