XP doesn't come with an ASPI layer. If you have an application that requires ASPI, you need to install it. The easiest one I've found is Force Aspi which you can download here: http://www.cyrus.troy.btinternet.co.uk/downloads.htm Extract the files to an empty folder, then double click the INSTASPI.BAT file to install it, then restart the computer. You might want to download the Aspi Check tool on that page too to check and make sure ASPI is fully installed.

You can get the ASPI 4.70 here. http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.html?sess=no&cat=%2fOperating+System%2fMicrosoft+Windows+XP&filekey=aspi_v470.exe
NERO has ASPI drivers that are different if that one doesn't work. http://www.nero.com/

Did you restart the computer after running the INSTASPI.BAT installation of Force Aspi? You have to reboot for it to take effect. I've used it on my XP and 2000 partitions with no problem.
