Looks like you still cant get it to set to dma.

I imagine you took the advice to see if dma was enabled in the bios?

If you didnt...then do it :)

Also If present, make this change to your computer's BIOS:

Allow PCI Bus Masters = Enabled

(Just incase you didnt know how to access bios)

To access your computer's BIOS you must restart your computer. During the initial startup your computer will tell you which key to press in order to enter the setup program (typically DEL or F2 for Award). Press the corresponding key during startup.

If that doesn't help.

I would if I was you...take out the optowrite drive and switch it to secondary master and move the cd rom to secondary slave. Make sure you are using an 80pin cable for the optorite and the same for the cd rom...(This is how you should have your drives set up anyway..considering you only have 2 optical devices attached)

reboot...

Then if you have nero installed use the nero info tool (under the nero tool kit) and let it read your drives.

Once this has done select the configuration tab and choose to save all the info by selecting the floppy icon....make sure all the boxes are ticked and select save. This will save it as a txt doc.

Then post it back into here or email me at bleem_423@hotmail.com so I can take a look at it.

You may also want to take a look at this link about dma and windows xp

YOU ARE using udma mode 2..according to your stats...For both hd/drives and optical drives..??

Primary Master: WDC WD300BB-75DEA0

Default Transfer Mode: UDMA-2
Current Transfer Mode: UDMA-2
Transfer Mode Limit: No Limit
Cable Type (Device): 40 Conductor
Cable Type (Host): 40 Conductor

(Change this to an 80 pin ide cable)

Primary Slave: WDC WD400BB-75DEA0
Default Transfer Mode: UDMA-2
Current Transfer Mode: UDMA-2
Transfer Mode Limit: No Limit
Cable Type (Device): 40 Conductor
Cable Type (Host): 40 Conductor

(change to 80 pin ide cable)

optical drives will only use udma-2 mode anyway..which they appear to be set at.

(but again...use 80 pin ide cables)

Well, we know two things now:
1. Your DMA is enabled in BIOS
2. As Bleem said- Your problem is caused bu old ribbon cable. 40 wire cable will only let your drives run at DMA 2 instead of the DMA 5 or 6 you should get with 80 wire cable.
