have corrupt hard drive please help

CPU/Ram: amd ath 1.8gzh/512 ram

ive recently contracted the nachi worm virus and tried top download norton to fix problem but installation didnt complete so when i try to get on win xp os ithe comp auto crashes and cant make any commands. ive been advised to repair win xp but dont have disk, only disk i have is win 98.... so how to formatt hd and reinstall win 98 so i can use comp till i get win xp disk. thanks if you can help

I don't see why you can't use an emergency start up disk (Win 98) and make sure bios is set so that it boots to the A drive. Let it start in dos and come eventually to a A prompt. Choose Format C (C being your primary drive) and format entire disk. Then (if you used the emergency start up disk generated from Windows 98) you should be able to select D (CD Rom drive using generic Oak Technology CD drivers) and put your Win 98 CD in and install Win 98.
