Have admin rights but comp disagrees...

June 11, 2009 at 10:04:33
Specs: Windows XP
I recently downloaded a computer game to play, the DDO beta. I downloaded it, played it fine, then had to uninstall to fix a bug. Re-installed the .exe file to download the beta again, but now when I click on it, nothing happens. If I try to open the file with "run as", it tells me I need admin rights to do this. I -have- admin rights on my conmputer. What's up? Windows XP. It ran fine last night, now this.

So, use the Run As command and reinstall it.

What bug did you have to uninstall the game in order to fix? Maybe that has something to do with it.

Also, sanity check: is your user account a member of the local administrators group?

The bug was that the computer used to just freeze up, and I had to restart the computer several times. The forum for the game told me to uninstall and reinstall, which I did.

As far as I know, my user account has all admin abilities. That's why I'm confused. There are only 2 accounts on this computer, mine and my father's. Mine is listed as being Admin account.

ok, if the computer freezes/hangs/whatever, running with admin permission or not probably has nothing to do with it.

These things are probably correlated:
"the computer used to just freeze up" and "when I click on it, nothing happens"

Work on troubleshooting that. This is not a permission issue.

That's what confusing me. Yet when I try the "Run as" feature, it tells me I need Admin rights. Which I already have. I'll try something else. Thanks for the help! ^_^
