Hi all,
I am just writing with a very confusing problem that I have encountered while playing an old game, Harvester.
I will try to keep this simple: I only just recently managed to get the game running with sound (using the emulator SoundFX 2000) and now I've run into a video problem. The game runs totally smoothly but, throughout the game, the screen needs to *switch* to play you video segments to advance the plot of the game.
While these videos DO PLAY fine, as the screen is adjusting (resolution, or something?) to play these video clips, there is too long a delay during this black screen and I end up missing the first 5 seconds of the video! This is interfering with gameplay in many parts.
So basically, what I mean is that, when the screen goes black, getting ready to play the video in that part of the game, the video actually starts to play IN THE BACKGROUND (so I can't see it) and then after about 3 or 5 seconds it appears on the screen - or at least the last few seconds of the clip do! While the screen is black, I get the impression that it needs these few seconds to change the resolution or something. I remember playing this game years ago, probably on my older, Windows 98 system, and I never encountered this problem.
Because each video segment is only about 10 seconds long, it is quite important to catch them from the beginning. I have tried changing the resolution of the screen and stuff, before running the game, e.g. lower resolutions like 600 x 800, but of course the game runs at it's own resolution and the same problem occurs.
I am totally out of ideas and would appreciate ANY help from you brainiacs! Do I need to alter the monitor refresh rate, or something? My monitor is a very recent Acer flat screen AL1714. Is there any kind of program that could help me with this? I'm totally lost!
Thank you very much for your attention, and take care ... Mark
