Is it necesary to run a hardware firewall with an always on broadband connection. What is a good router firewall for home use and what do they cost.

A good free firewall is sygate free home edition...you DEFINATELY need a firewall on broadband.

Find it at this address

http://smb.sygate.com/download_buy.htm

It's free

If you need a simple solution, try mine. I try to give advise on things that have happened to my PC. Changes in registry can be FATAL!

From my experience, I believe you need both. The hardware firewall will block the bulk of the attacks and protect you when the software fails. The software firewall will take care of the rest of the crap that gets through. A good router can be had for 40 bucks or less, so it's pretty cheap to secure yourself properly.
